Andersen Malta

We’re pleased to announce the October edition of our European Employment Insights newsletter!

This issue presents in-depth analyses of the latest developments in employment legislation, regulations, legal precedents, and collective agreements across 18 European countries.

The October edition features an interview with Szilvia Fehérvári from Andersen Hungary, offering valuable insights on Hungary's employment law reforms and their impact on workplace disputes. Additionally, the rising trend of termination agreements is examined, along with practical guidance for employers on managing wrongful termination claims effectively.

Key topics highlighted in this edition include:

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina: The Republic of Srpska has allocated BAM 5 million to support youth employment, specifically aimed at helping young graduates secure trainee positions, with particular emphasis on children of war veterans.
  • Croatia: Recent amendments to the Aliens Act now permit the extension of foreign work permits for up to three years, streamlining job transitions and establishing new standards for worker accommodations.
  • Cyprus: Employers are now allowed to pay a portion of employees’ wages in kind, contingent upon mutual agreement and fair valuation, thereby introducing greater compensation flexibility.
  • Germany: The Federal Labor Court has ruled that holiday entitlements cannot be reduced during maternity or parental leave, ensuring employees receive full compensation for any unused leave.
  • Italy: A new credits-based health and safety license is now mandatory for companies and self-employed individuals in construction or civil engineering, promoting higher safety standards on job sites.
  • Portugal: The "INTEGRAR" program offers targeted support to assist immigrants and young people in integrating into the labour market, providing incentives for employers.
